I had the chance to listen to the new Kanye West album. I think that people are going to be shocked. His precedent was crazy, this new one goes even farther.

Songwriter and Neptunes producer Pharrell Williams has been announced as the keynote speaker for 2010 Midem conference in France. Williams will deliver the keynote in Cannes, France, where Midem takes place each year. The event, which is officially recognized as the world’s largest music industry trade show, will feature Williams on January 23, where he will address the impact of technology on the music industry and his vision of the future for the business.

In related news Williams has been tapped to produce the orchestral score for the upcoming cartoon Despicable Me, along with Oscar Award winners, Hans Zimmer and Heitor Pereira. The 3-D cartoon is being released by Universal Pictures and features the voices of actor’s like Steve Carrell, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Danny McBride and others. “I love cartoons and animation, and I’ve never seen such incredible 3-D CGI,” Williams said. “To score Despicable Me along with Hans and Heitor and write original songs for the film is a dream come true.”

The Game did the interview for Rolling Out, here’s the part where he speaks about working with Pharrell :

“Me and Pharell … we established in six months’ time a sort of like a brotherhood. … I’m pretty sure [if] you talk to him, he’d say the same thing — it’s a bond that’s unbreakable,” he says. “And it’s not really [about the] music. It’s outside of music. Pharrell [gets into the studio] and we get in a zone and everything becomes ABC. It’s just real easy to [get] together in the studio. The songs just come out so remarkable and so crazy that everyone from women to men — you can be a thug or you can have a 9 to 5 — everybody appreciates the music, so I know that what we’re doing is catastrophic.”

Pharrell’s Influence:

“I think that the last person that told me something that I really appreciated was Pharrell, and I didn’t know that was possible. My boss is Jimmy Iovine, and Dre and my manager all tried to talk to me. Everybody always tried to steer ‘Game’ in the right direction or tell me to fall back from doing this. But I do me,” he says. “But it wasn’t until me and Pharrell had conversations … [that] I really understood his perspective of who I was and my career and my music — and he told me from a fan’s standpoint and not from being Pharrell Williams. It meant a lot to me. That’s probably the only person that I’ve taken advice from. Other than that, it’s me behind those decisions.”

Shakira has revealed that she learnt a lot during her time working with Pharrell Williams. The pair collaborated on a number of songs from Shakira’s upcoming She Wolf album. Angry Ape quoted the Columbian as saying: “In five days Pharrell and I did four tracks together. What was interesting is that he’s very fast and immediate in the studio and I’m a little slower.”

She added: “When collaborating you always try and capture something from the other person and I learned a lot from his method.” The songs Williams worked on are ‘Did it Again’, ‘Why Wait’, ‘Good Stuff’ and ‘Long Time’. She Wolf is released in the UK on Monday.

Pharrell’s falsetto can only go so far. So he, along with the rest of the N.E.R.D. troops, recruited a new singer into the fold for their fourth album, Instant Gratification, slated to be released sometime in 2010. The addition of Rhea, introduced to the band by a mutual friend, has the producer promising some lofty things for the foursome’s next project. “Musically, we’re just somewhere else [with her],” Pharrell told MTV News. “The music is now very 3-D. It’s something you have to hear. But you’ll see. We’re definitely somewhere else. I want to leave that impact moment for when you purchase your download and you purchase your CD. The music is very three-dimensional. We’re just really excited. We feel like N.E.R.D. has always been the punks of hip-hop and the outcasts of alternative music — just a little different. But this time, we’re taking no prisoners.” The Neptunes artist explained Rhea might be petite, at just 5-foot-4, but her booming voice and her classical background blend in with the genre-bending trio of N.E.R.D., also including Chad Williams and Shae.

“Now you have this little Tinkerbell that’s just stepped in and has been amazing,” he said. “It’s made it a fun process. We can go in so many more directions, because we have the vocal support.” Rhea, a Toronto native of Guyanese descent, met the fellas only once in person before she auditioned for them via Skype. She sang “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.” Her rendition impressed the guys, and she soon found herself signing on. “It was just a really good time,” she said of meeting the collective. “When I came in there and I met them and they heard me sing, I think they decided it was the right fit.”

“Don’t be bashful,” Pharrell chimed in. “We lost our minds. We thought she was great.” N.E.R.D. are set to hit the road next week with Jay-Z on his Blueprint 3 tour.
